KATHRI - Recent Programs

  1. A guest lecture on the theme Darwin Bicentenary: Is the world equally comprehensible to science and theology by Dr. P. Dayanandan, Professor Emeritus, Madras Christian College was held on 4th September 2009. Dr. Prakash Karat, Professor Emeritus, Mangalore University moderated the session.
  2. A five-day pastoral continuing education (PACE) program was organized between 28th September and 2nd October 2009 on the theme ‘Mission in partnership in a religiously-pluralistic society’. 30 pastors from KND, KSD, Methodists South India Regional Conference and Lutheran Church Kollegal participated. The program was sponsored by grants from Christa Kuteera PACE Foundation and KND.
  3. A doctoral colloquium for Ph.D. candidates along with their guides was held in October 2009. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Principal, Symbiosis Law School, Pune delivered the keynote address on Quality Research.
  4. Chitra Vaibhava:
    1. Chitra Vaibhava, an exhibition of more than 1000 rare photographs taken between 1840 and 1940 by BM missionaries depicted our land, letters, religion and culture was organized for 12 days from 30th October to mark the conclusion of the commemoration of the 175th anniversary of the arrival of the first missionaries from Basel in India. More than 8000 attentive and critical enthusiasts visited the exhibition. It initiated a public discourse on the contribution of BM to the religious and cultural spheres of our land and to its all-round development. This event received wide coverage in press and television in Karnataka.
    2. Chitra Vaibhava was also present on request at the Udupi Regional Tulu Sammelana – November 2009. More than 20,000 visited the exhibition.
    3. Chitra Vaibhava again represented the Tulu Christian community in Ujjire during the World Tulu Conference – December 2009. Around 600 photographs on Tulu Nadu, Nudi, Jana, Dharma and Samskruthi were on display. More than 2,50,000 visitors were attracted to the exhibition.
  5. A one-day seminar was conducted on 14th April 2010 for successful M.Phil. candidates along with their guides and the present M.Phil. students who presented the abstracts of their M.Phil. research theses.
  6. A short program was held on 14th April 2010 evening to give away M.Phil. degree certificates. Dr. Chinappa Gowda, Registrar, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest, Dr. H.R. Cabral, Chairman KATHRI presided over the function.
